There has been a significant increase in the number residential home burglaries throughout the Town of Mt. Pleasant and the County.  Homeowners are encouraged to ensure that all accessible windows and doors are secured when they leave their home.  If you think that you may not return to your home before dusk, you should leave on several lights that are visible from the roadway.  A dark house just after dusk may lead burglars to believe the owner or occupants are away at work.

Keep vigilant and look out for people or cars that seem out of place.  Don't look away from strangers; instead let them know that they have been observed.  This may cause them to leave the area.  In any event, notify your police department as soon as possible. Try to gather as much information as possible regarding the number of suspicious people, any description of the people that you saw,  a description of the car, including; type, color or make.  Did the car have any body damage, was it loud or have tinted windows?  All information could be helpful.

If you are going to be away for any length of time, consider letting a trusted neighbor know so that they could keep an eye out for strangers on your property.

Remember; report all suspicious incidents to the police as soon as it occurs.
